Plans in PRINCE2

A Project Plan answers these questions for a project – Why, What, Who, When and How much. It, therefore, contains sufficient information to show that Project targets are achievable. It is the backbone of the project and regularly updated to understand the project progress.

There are three levels of a Plan in PRINCE2:

The Project Plan is used by the project Board at the Direction level and covers a high level plan for the entire project. The Project Manager is responsible to keep it up to date and created during the Initiating a Project process. The plan contains the major deliverables of the project, associated cost and their delivery date.

The Stage Plan is used at the management level. The Project manager uses it daily to keep track of the progress of a particular stage. It’s more detailed than the Project Plan and focuses on one stage.

Team Plans are created and used by the Team Manager in the Delivery level. The work for the team members is planned to have a clear direction as mentioned in the work packages.

There could be other plans like the Exception Plan which will cover the exceptions when Project doesn’t go as per the Project or Stage Plan.
