Agile Scrum - Sprint Retrospective Facts

  • Sprint Retrospective meeting is strictly between the Scrum Master and the Development team. Others can be invited if they provide a value add to the meeting purpose, even the Product owner.

  • The primary motive is to learn continuously from the previous Sprint mistakes.

  • The Action items from the meeting fall under the SMART criteria i.e. Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-Bound.

  • The Scrum Master should change the meeting format from time-to-time to encourage participation and fresh ideas rather than sticking to the same format.

  • Sprint retrospective is focused on the processes being followed and how to improve them.

  • Positive team culture and trust are important factors for the success of Sprint retrospective.

  • The Retrospective is applicable to all the teams, irrelevant to the high-performing or low-performing team.

  • To encourage participation from everyone, it’s a good idea to have a few opening lines from every participant.

  • Apart from the Scrum Master, others can also facilitate the meeting.
