The Project characteristics differentiate it from the BAU process. These are the five characteristics,
Change is introduced by the Project and it could be a new implementation or change in the existing functions.
Temporary nature of the project conveys that there should be a start and end date of a project. Once everything defined in the scope is delivered, it should stop.
Cross-Functional talks about the different teams, stakeholders from different business units and all working together to deliver a project.
Unique is the attribute of each project. No two projects can be same, there would always be a unique differentiating factor.
Uncertainty means, there is no surety on the project journey and how all the things are going to happen. It’s just a plan and realised as team goes forward with it. The influencing factor could be internal or external.
